Glenburn Hall

Set within the rural landscape of Glenburn, this community landscape is designed as a welcoming place for play, gathering and connection. Ground Landscape Studio’s design draws directly from the character of the surrounding landscape, creating two complementary spaces: a naturalistic playground and a community garden.

The playground takes its cues from the nearby Yea River, with a dry creek play feature forming the central element. Local river pebbles, planted islands, timber sleeper bridges and stepping stones reinterpret the character of a natural waterway, encouraging children to explore and interact with the landscape. A basket swing, seesaw, timber teepee and animal springers provide further opportunities for imaginative and inclusive play, while planting reinforces connections to the local environment.

To the east, the community garden provides a series of informal gathering spaces designed to support everyday community life. A central fire pit and outdoor seating create a place to come together, while a smaller BBQ and seating area allows parents to remain connected to the playground. Raised garden beds introduce a productive element, encouraging community participation and shared use of the landscape.

Along the Melba Highway edge, planting and subtle landform provide screening and a buffer from the road, helping create a safer and more protected environment within the site.

Ground Landscape Studio is proud to have provided its landscape design services pro bono, supporting the Glenburn community in creating a landscape that brings people together and strengthens the role of this historic local gathering place. The hall is already an established venue for community events and gatherings, making the landscape an extension of its longstanding community role.
